Wonderful old Reno secret!
by LilyM02 at Citysearch
Kyoto is the place to go for a special night out...actually any night out and lunch too! To start -the atmosphere is relaxing. You can actually hear your companion speaking unlike some of the noisy places out there. The service is friendly and helpful. And the food...... The food is fabulous. They have a large range of sushi and a wonderful selection of Japanese hot dishes. The miso soup is light and the salad dressing made from scratch, is addicting. My favorites are a Shogayaki (Ginger) Chicken that melts in your mouth, the tempura is as light as a feather, the ShaBu ShaBu - a terriffic meal cooked at your table, and the noodles- udon, ramin and soba that make a perfect, healthy soup for a chilly winter day . Oh, and let me not forget the Green Tea cheesecake....delightful! The prices are quite reasonable and in fact the lunch specials can't be beat. They also offer a full bar and several selections of sake and Japanese beer. I'm so glad I discovered this hidden gem and am looking forward to trying even more of their menu.
They are in the Moana West shopping center next to Josephs Bakery
Best Sushi in Town and open for more than 20 years, Great Customer Service,

The only thing I can say about this place is "Tried it." Everything from the bowl of miso soup came in, and the salad, are fresh and still serving the traditional Janpense Foods. Yes, the fish pieces were cutting right and freash. A lot of local people came in and out. They knew the Owner very well since she can remeber their first name. This place is a bomb. I was in Thursday. It was crowd in the bar. Everyone was so relax and having fun with their cocktail drinks. I am going to bring more friends to come over and try out their foods and drinks. Great customer service and the server are good looking too.... :) The price was right too, therefore I gave Kyoto Restaurant 4 starts.
sushi was bad - not worth price

OK, went a second time. Sorry I have to change my rating but thats the way it went. Ordered sushi this time and was sorely dissapointed. Normally you order a roll for $6.50 (SF roll) and you get at least 6 pieces. All I got was 4 pieces so it was a rip. They do not do all you can eat here so if one was to get sushi for a meal you might spend $40 a person min. The service was really bad this time. Never will return, there are other places.
OK, you guys scared me with the one star reviews, so I went anyway, getting ready for bad service or bad food. NEITHER HAPPENED, THE SERVICE WAS FINE AND THE FOOD WAS WHAT WAS EXPECTED. Maybe they saw the reviews and got their you know what together. I ghad the prok cutlet combo with tempura and GF had cal roll and pork cutlet. The pork was tender as I have had some that were not at other places. I really guess that those who had bad service were just unlucky! Hey and I used the entertainment card 2 for 1 so I got one meal free!
- Pros: COMPETENT SERVERS
- Cons: really bad sushi
Bad Food and rudest service
by thrucellardoor at Citysearch
I went here with a friend on my birthday, we ordered a couple of sushi dishes. One of which was more salty than usual, so I called the manager over and she put her hands on her hips, rolled her eyes and said irritably "whats wrong with it?"
I explained to her about the dish and she picked up the dish and walked off and ignored us. This was the worst experience I had ever had at a restuarant, foodwise and service, Will never go here and would not recommend it.
- Pros: There were not any
- Cons: The manager and staff were not understanding and rude, the food was terrible
Want real authentic Japanese food? Not in Reno!

I checked out the review and it had 3.5 stars... so I thought maybe it's ok. The service is SLOW and there were maybe 4 othere guests uppon our arrival.
The sushi was ok.... but if you plan on getting california rolls or similar just buy it at costco because they serve it really cold, like they bought it from costco except the costco one tastes better. Better yet just go to Sushi Pier! Sushi Pier has the best sushi in town!
If you plan on getting terriyaki, make sure you bring your own sause because they use it very sparingly like maybe 2ml's or 2cc's.... ( very little)
The tempura was ok but they really don't give you much just one shrimp with some vegetables..... just to say that the combination tempura has shrimp.....
After my husband and I ate there it just reminded us that there are no authentic or even just good Japanese food in Reno =( Just because the servers are Japanese and the host/hostess are Japanese doesn't mean the chef's/cooks are.
Overall I would recommend just trying to cook Japanese food at home!
Decent Japanese Food

If you want to eat Japanese food other than sushi, I would recommend to go to this restaurant. The food, service, and atomospher are excellent.
- Pros: Good Food, Good Service, Good Atmosphere
- Cons: Expensive
