Going Downhill

by DavidJohnston

We first encountered the Mac Grill in Carolwood, Florida. (The one that burned down a few years back.) We really loved the food and could always find something for everyone. The service was good, the food was good and served hot and we could get in and out before the kids got cranky. We were delighted to find there was one in Reno when we moved here and we have probably eaten there more than all other Italian places in Reno combined. Up to our last visit, it was great.

Unfortunately our last trip was something else. As we entered we found a white board with the special of the evening listed. Only to be told they only had one more left. Then we went to the table and got the menus. My wife's favorite, veal Parmesan was no longer on the menu. She had to settle for something else. I ordered spaghetti with meatballs. Next we were informed they had no fresh bread and had to wait until they made some more. Then I was informed they were out of meatballs so I settled for meat sauce. Then the food came and my wife found that her's was not very warm.

There were just too many "ran out of" issues and add that to the menu changes and that was it for us. We shall now be searching for another Italian place.

  • Pros: Was our favorite Italian place for the family.
  • Cons: Too many cut backs.

What to Drink:

Each table is supplied with a huge jug of Macaroni Grill's "house" wine. You tell your server how much your table had to drink, and he or she charges accordingly.

The Extras:

The little ones will feel right at home here: A kids menu offers corn dogs, grilled cheese and chicken fingers, and there are crayons on the tables for doodling on the paper tablecloths.
