UNCOMFORTABLE – THIS PLACE WAS WAAAYY TOO HOT AND NEGATIVE! THERE WERE A HANDFUL OF CLASSY PEOPLE, BUT THE MAJORITY HAD NO CLASS, INCLUDING THE DJ. BOY THAT DJ WAS FULL OF HIMSELF AND THE SECURITY GUY AT THE DOOR WAS JUST UNPLEASANT. CRAPPY SERVICE ALL AROUND. THERE ARE PLENTY OF OTHER KARAOKE SHOWS IN THIS TOWN THAT HAVE GREAT SINGERS AND ENERGETIC, FUN DJ'S, I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO SOMEONE I DON'T LIKE. THEY KEEP IT SO HOT YOU ARE JUST MISERABLE AND THE BEER ON TAP IS OVER PRICED. THE DJ REALLY JUST SEEMED INTERESTED IN HIMSELF AND HIS THREE FRIENDS. NO SMILES AND FUN TIMES IN THIS ATMOSPHERE. IF YOU DO MAKE THE POOR CHOICE OF VISITING THIS BAR BE SURE TO BRING YOUR OWN PERSONAL AIR CONDITIONER OR SOMETHING AND WATCH YOUR BACK, THE PLACE SEEMED FILLED WITH DRAMA, MOSTLY OF THE EMPLOYEES.
Disappointment – Okay, I read the other reviews on this bar and the two most recent were rave reviews, so a couple of friends and I went to check it out......the two people with the great reviews must be friends of the employees or something, the place is very negative and it seems that you see the same singers twice before you get called up. The bartenders were just rushed and non personable and the security staff were just aloof. Some of the customers were pretty cool, but the dance breaks are way too much. Arrogant seems the best word for the DJ and most of the bouncers. Drink prices seemed average and the drinks good, wouldn't recommend anyone to check it out though. All I can say is we gave it a fair chance and were disappointed. I have been to much more fun and energetic karaoke shows.
Funnest place in town – WoW!!! Somewhere different to hang out that is fun as hell! I love this place. I am quite new to town, and I kinda ran across this place. I was a little skeptical at first but I had a blast! Everyone was so nice there, the drinks good and strong, and the people who work there were really friendly. I read a few of the reviews and the ones that were bad, I never saw any of what they said. I like the fact that they have a dress code, and from what one of the patrons that was there said, they are a lot more picky about who they let inside. I was also impressed with the fact, they do not allow bad drunken behaivor. If you even attemp to start anything you are out. I felt real safe and been back atleast six or seven times. Each time the same thing. Great service, friendly staff and a great place to hang out. If you are a cool person looking to sing ya got to go. I noticed there is more dancing on the weekend and for someone like me thats ok as i do not sing. Weekdays are relaxed, and weekends get crowded, but all in all it is a great place to hang out. So all I have to say to those who have such negitive things to say about this bar is what did ya do to get 86'd? cause i have never seen them 86 anyone just having a good time.
I work in customer service at a downtown Reno casino, and whenever guests ask me where they can go to have fun away from the casinos, I always recommend W 2nd St Bar, whether they want to sing karaoke or just a fun place to hang out.
After a stressful shift at work, there's nothing I like better than to go to W 2nd to have a drink, sing some karaoke and just unwind. I've been a regular customer for years, and I always have a great time. The bartenders are the best, they make the best drinks in Reno for reasonable prices. The KJs make everyone feel welcome, whether you're an experienced singer or a karaoke virgin. They have a very large selection of karaoke songs, almost anything you'd want to sing. And their sound system is the best around! If you're looking for the best karaoke experience, I'd recommend going on a weeknight for less crowds and plenty of chances to get up and show off your vocal skills. On the weekends there's more people and while there's still karaoke, it's more of a dance club.
The security staff makes me feel very safe, which is especially important for a woman in a bar.
I've been to other karaoke shows in town, but I always come back to W 2nd St. Even when I went to Las Vegas, the karaoke bars there left me feeling homesick for Reno and W 2nd St Bar!
As Toby Keith says - I LOVE THIS BAR!
Been my favorite hang out for years – Upon seeing some of the ratings for this establishment, i was mortified to see more negitive ones than positive. I am also perplexed on how this bar gets a bad rap for things that i have seen happen over the years in every bar I have been to over the years. Unfortunatly some people get stupid when they drink and irritate those who dont. My point, dont blame the bar, blame the patrons in it who are to drunk to act like adults. Security wont have to "rough up" any one if they were not stupid. I have noticed that if something happens in front of West second, or outside West second after hours it autmaticall involves them. this is not true. being a long time patron I know the owners down to the security, and they have NEVER displayed any behaivor that has been listed in other reviews. They make u feel like family. If there is a problem all you need to do is bring it to their attention and "pow" it is taken care of. Their goal is not to lose business it is to get business. As with any business, decisions get made that we realize are wrong. It is the good business owner that realizes this and changes it. I am refering to the clientel. Yes at one time, any thug in reno was able to go there, but recently that has changed for the good. But remember, "one bad apple ruins the bunch" and unfortunatly many of us had had to be on the recieving end of this on more than one occasion. But it is the owners, management and staff that have kept me coming back. Their service, respect, customer service, and desire to do the best for the business is why i go. mind you I am a regular that frequents there atleast twice a week. i have seen my fair share of stupidity in there, and it has NEVER been at the hands of the management or staff it has been the patrons that ruin the experience. the bar is a great place. Everyone needs to give the bar a chance. Do nt let the stupid people ruin it. Trust me, you will see it as being a great place to be on a busy or slow day.
GONE TO HELL – Used to frequent West 2nd Street Bar approx. 4 years ago, then moved out of town and then returned to Reno this year. I also decided to visit the bar my friends and I used to have fun at only to discover it has gone to hell. I mean what happened in 4 short years? All the employees are rude, unfriendly! Their security are just like these ego bully types with no personality or true caring about the safety of the customers, there seemed to always be something happening while I was there (negative) with security hitting and pushing both men and women...no respect was shown that I saw or the people with me. It is called Reno's only Karaoke bar, and I heard the DJ tell a lady in front of me in line to turn a song in that he was no longer taking songs because the people who wanted to dance requested dance music (he had already had plenty of what he called "dance breaks" throughout the night) and he wouldn't want to lose their business.....Thought it was a Karaoke Bar not a dance club! What about losing your karaoke business, afterall they are a Karaoke Bar, Right? DJ just was arrogant and unpleasant and if I had wanted to listen to hip hop crappy music for 45-50 minutes at a time I would have gone to a young dance club. I will be sure to let people I know that West 2nd Street karaoke Bar is NOT worth visiting, with its mean security , rude employees and thug like customers.
WORST BAR EVER – This bar is by far the worst ever. I went a couple of weeks ago because my cousins talk it up. worst experience ever. bar is to crowed, bouncer beat up on random people and your in fear that if you look at someone in any way your going to get beaten up or jumped. When I was ther a fight broke outside and nothing was done at all. Worst place ever, do not recommed it at all. oh yeah did i mention that there was a shoting there last week. soyou either going to be shot at or beat up.
Horrible – This is the worst bar I have ever been to. Way crowded, bad service, and dumb meathead bouncers that pick people at random and beat them up. If you want to have the worst time of your life then go here. If you like to get drunk and fight then you may like it. I hope the owners of the bar read this and realize your establishment is a embarassment to the public.
"needs to be condemned" – The first time I went to this bar about 2 1/2 yrs ago on a slow week night it was o.k. a regular karaoke dive bar. However it did'nt take long to realize the general concensus in Reno is to stay away, unless your looking for a fight or to get jumped or have someone rob you of something. Its very crowded inside on weekends and people constantly bump into you while you listen to lame hip hop and karaoke. I have witnessed multiple fights, nearly been in few myself. I have witnessed bouncers being bullies to many people including women and the cops are usually sorting out a mess or two on Fridays and Saturdays. Cheers and bring brass knuckles for your own protection.
User review by pinky_deep – This bar was not fun at all. The atmosphere was too dark and people uptight. The drinks were expesive and the bartenders took forever to get our order and were not polite. I watched the bouncer allow five guys to jump someone who didn't like the selection of music and still allow the guys back into the bar after witnessing the fight. Overall the service and atmosphere did not allow for a low key and friendly place to share some laughs and sing some fun songs. I will never go back and will never reccomend this place to others.
