West 2nd is a Great Bar – This bar has finally gotten rid of all the "Gang Bangers" but it seems to have lost its way. The "Mojo" is gone from this place, the KJ on the weekend has no personality to speak of. No interraction with the crowd like the old KJ had. If you want to sing, there are better choices in downtown Reno
Great atmosphere on non weekends – I went there while visiting last year. I had a great time. Went on a couple of weekdays so it always started up slow at first but by around 11:30pm people start to fill in and it picks up. The crowd seemed to be mostly locals which I liked and the bartender was great. That girl can sing. I've heard that it's less fun on the weekends because of the crowds so if you want to just chill and have a good time go there on a weekday.
im here , got a problem come see me – Seriously........
Reno of 2008 isn?t Reno of 2000; it?s a whole new crowd. I?m the Head of security and ill tell you if you think the bar is bad, you should have seen in 5 months ago. I?ve taken a great deal of personal abuse and violence to clean the crowd up. Its getting a lot better , but until the Rep we earned from being a "Oakland style bar" from the folks in Oakland goes away , we are going to have a lot of "gangster and Gangster wanna-be's " hanging out . We DO have a dress Code and enforce it. It would help us (the bar) if the RPD would sweep the sidewalks when we toss out the trouble makers. We have thrown out dirt bags trying to come in to sell dope and the RPD refuses to disperse them from in front of our club. So all the angry dirt bags that get refused entrance mad mug, talk endless trash `and threaten everyone coming in. It makes our job very hard while we try to clean up inside, we get almost no help on the outside.
So people walking by see nothing but a bunch of angry thugged out d-bags leaning on the building, smoking dope and drinking. (We can?t kick em off the public access) so we get bypassed by the folks we are trying to attract. It?s very hard right now.
RPD is doing a much better job lately; we have seen a lot more presence, so kudos to them.
My name is Chris, if there is a problem.see me im on friday-saturday night at the door
Worse Dive Bar and Smoke I Have EVER Experiened!! – I'm orignally from L.A., CA. (born and raised). I use to club @ The Fabulous Florentine Gardens, Baby Does, Pepper's, Red Onion's, Wing's, Paladium and more in the late 80's and early 90s. I sure miss Hollywood!! This place (West 2nd Street whatever) was the MOST VIOLENT, WORSE nighmare I have ever experienced. I am prior Military (U.S. Air Force) from 1981-1985. I am an anglo saxon white male - age 45 and visited this place last night (5/2/08) - Friday night. I arrived @ approximately 3:15 a.m. to my amazement I could NOT believe all the "wanna-be" gangsta's and the plethora of ARROGANT Security kids trying to be something they definitely were NOT! Trying to pick up on drunk bar fly's left and right, dancing with them, smoking (SMOKE WAS UNBEARABLE) not to mention the lack of class and style in this dump!!! Good news is I did not have to pay a cover charge (could see why) when I arrived. Within the first 15 min's of being in that small, crowded DUMP with BAD MUSIC I almost got into a fight! There were about 4-5 fight's in a mere 1 hour of misery while I was there. I did NOT drink anything. I thought maybe something would jump out of the glass and grab me! LIke a "rocky horror picture show!!" Where is MANAGEMENT here? Where are the Owner's? Police were there when I left outside. Many hispanic and African American kids who look like there were right out of MTV. I love black people, asian women and latina's big time! I"m from L.A. remember? 42 years of it! I live in So. Orange County (Irvine, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach) area's and seen some pretty nice, high class places W/O ALL THE UNHEALTHY CIGERETTE SMOKE, VIOLENT, NO DRESS CODE clubs in 15 different states and 3 countries - but NEVER anything like this!! I was very disappointed, disrespcted and felt as though being in San Quentin State Prison working as a volunteer counselor as well as in L.A. County Jail, Youth Authorities were MUST less violent!! I would NEVER go back!

best place to catch a fight any night of the week – i like to party as well as the next but this place is a total buzz stopper i was there sun. night and watched as security and some of there drunk friends kick the heck out of a couple of guys and a girl. i was scared and wont go back... watch your back here... security is more like thugs with no care as to wether you have fun. it is not a well run bar, the bouncers are there partying with there friends who for some reason get to do most of the kareoke??????? this place does not trying to help make memorable memories for visitors but for themselves.
nice add tbonzefz??? your security? you really sell the place.
What once was great.... – I grew up in Reno and at one point, this was the place to be on a weekend. My friends and I used to go there all the time in my early 20s and it was a fun place to be, great karaoke, comfortable atmosphere. It was like that until about 8 years ago and then something went horribly wrong.
Every once in a while, we try to give it another chance and it's the same thing everytime.
First off, it's WAY too crowded. I'm sure there's a fire code violation in there somewhere. Second of all, they advertise karaoke but it's one song and then ten really loud, horrible rap/hip hop songs for dancing. This is no longer the great karaoke bar it once was. The staff used to be awesome, the kind of bartenders you raved about to your friends and you felt comfortable being around. They didn't have bouncers back then. Since they got them, I've rarely seen one that is friendly or good to be around. You get the immediate vibe now when you first walk in that this is just a really negative place to be. The "karaoke" dj, is anything but. I get the impression from him (and I remember when he first took over) that he's disgusted with karaoke in general. I think he'd rather be a full time DJ but no real club would likely hire him since he can't mix for anything.
It just isn't anything great now and now that it isn't the only game in town anymore, I avoid it like the plague when we go out. The atmosphere is negative (patrons and employees), it's too hot, stuffy and cramped. Honestly, sardines have more room to move but I guess if you're not there for karaoke, you like bad music and you enjoy being armpit to armpit with a bunch of idiots, then by all means, check it out.
If you're looking for an enjoyable Karaoke atmosphere, Spyro's in Sparks is a lot nicer and they actually focus on Karaoke. If you're looking to dance, check out Vino's across the street. The employees (even the bouncers) are friendlier and it's bigger so not as overly cramped.
It is what you make it. – I'm one of the security personal from the club. I have read some of these reviews. I must say some of your points are valid. But what you don't know is if you come to have a good time you will. If you are a drunken a hole you will be treated like one. The problems we really have are from out of towners who think this is Oakland. You try being security in a club and having people take swings at you all night. And by the way, what club have you been to that the security is all lovey dovey. You have to do a lot of stuff to get 86'ed from this place. So you must be an idiot. I suggest when you go to any club you mind your own business and you will be fine.
what is up with this??? – just heard from a reliable source at this piece o' *** bar that the head of security has been suspended for, are you ready....holding down a girl at the bar so that a waitress could beat on her for starting trouble with her.
I had always heard that this guy was a loser but come on!!! What kind of a real man does this kind of thing...and what kind of a lunatic would go along with this ????
This bar has gradually spun out of control. It has an evil vibe when you first walk in the door but then to have this kind of stuff going on in some back room. ..This place needs to be shut down. Soon.
Not forgotten bar in the second street – I the guy from Kazakhstan. I in 2003 was in the city of Reno.
I lived in motel Olympia on against a bar in the second street.
In one evening I have casually got to a bar, have paid attention to qualitative singing which rushed along the street.
I have been shaken by atmosphere in a bar, it reminded me a family party. I the foreigner felt, as at home.
Affable service, the security guard carried out honesty duties not starting up already decently drunk and few the summer.
Till now I remember this Bar. And those who is not happy with a bar in 2 street,
I invite to us to Kazakhstan and will compare that the super. All is learnt in comparison. I wish to send regards to the personnel of a bar and please send regards from Kazakhstan to the owner of motel Olympia.
Pavel Polistovskiy The person from Kazakhstan!
