charter=morons – DON'T sign up for Charter! The people who work there are complete morons. The sales jerkoff who signed me up lied about a rebate I was going to get in order to make the sale. I was on hold with 4 different people ( none could speak decent English!) who basically called me "maam" for over and hour and then told me that I wouldn't get a rebate and she doesn't know why the sales person told me I would.
I honestly don't think the people they hire made it through the 2nd grade! I got jipped. I had AT &T in the past and they were good, but apparantly they don't serve the area I live in now. Sucks!
Very Poor Customer Service – I just had Charter installed within the last month. First when the technician arrived at my house he didn't even know what was supposed to be installed. I had to talk to him then call Charter and have them call him for him to do the complete installation.
When he installed the cables (there were cables in there previously) he broke the face plate, left the pieces on the floor and now I have a whole in the wall with two cables hanging out.
When I received my bill I see that the bill is twice what is suppose to be and they have charged me separately for each installation (phone, internet and tv). Totalling about $100 worth of installation charges.
Charter is the only cable so like others have said not competitition so they feel that can do what they like. Something needs to be done.
I can only hope that the service is better then the installation and billing!
SOMEONE SAVE US FROM CHARTER!!! – Eh?
Everyone has pretty much stated what is wrong with Charter. Count me in as one of the many people who are FED UP with this ISP.
I live in Incline Village, NV and Charter is the only service provider up here. With no competition, there are no standards. I pay for the best internet package provided and 80% of the time I am getting speeds from the dinosaur era. Whether it's streaming movies or playing online video games, all I experience is BUFFER, BUFFER, BUFFER!
I AM SICK OF IT!
Charter is not worth the money, but what are we supposed to do up here? Nowadays you need the internet for damn near everything. At this point if there was a way to have everything running off of my 3G cell phone signal, I would be more satisfied.
I feel like I am being gypped and I am not the only one. Charter is one of the most expensive ISP's money can buy, we deserve better.
Hopefully Time Warner or Comcast or ANYONE else besides Charter will see this and think about setting up shop in Incline.

WORST EVER!!!!!! – This company is beyond dishonest. Internet is slow or always down. They always try and blame the customer and never themself.
I was told that they were pinging my modem
(their rental unit) and that they were getting a great signal and it must be my computer.
Problem was I already knew they were BS'ing me so I had pulled the power on the modem just to see if they were doing a "real" test or just walking through a script that ends with my computer being bad.
So how can they get a "great signal" when their box is not even turned on?
These guys do nothing but lie.
Stay far away from them if you can!
Avoid Charter Communications – This company is dishonest, and has the worst customer service I have ever encountered. My bill is PACKED with charges that were never quoted and said to not even exist, or charges that are much higher than quoted on the phone.
My request that the recorded conversations be reviewed to get to the bottom of the lies about charges was completely ignored.
Run, don't walk, away from this company that seeks only to filch it's customers and never provide the promised service.
If you have an option, don't get Charter! – I've had Charter communications for about 4 years now. I used to love them. I never had a problem with my service, and if I did they were on the ball getting everything working again and crediting my bill. Recently I moved to the North Valleys. Since then, my 25mbps internet connection has been intermittently unresponsive, I've had 2 technician appointments that never showed up, and every representative I talk to says "Go ahead and cancel your service if you think you can get better".
I had the option of switching to U-Verse when I moved since there's a node out here, and everyday I wish that I had excercised that option. My latest experience today was with a representative that was obviously not in the US. When I asked questions regarding my online bill not displaying appropriately and why was my balance different than what reflected on my bill, the agent instead chose to address the fact that when I called to complain about the tech not showing up I was apparently credited too much money. "I hope you're happy with that" he says "Because I will be reporting this agent and I hope she gets in trouble for giving you the wrong credit. Really you shouldn't be complaining about your bill now should you since you got more credit than you deserved the last time." WTF?!
So then I called and asked to talk to a supervisor. When she answered the line, I told her that the last 3 representatives I've spoken with have been extremely rude and told me to go ahead and cancel my service if I'm not happy. I told her that, as a call center representative myself, I find this service offensive and I think it's bad business. She robotically says "I'm very sorry for your inconvenience ma'am. We appreciate your business. Now what is the problem today?" HELLO?!?! That is the problem!!! As a supervisor, you're not concerned about your agents being rude and telling customers to cancel their service?!?!
I don't know how things have degraded so much in the last 4 years, but where I used to recommend all my friends and family to Charter because they were so wonderful to me, now I am posting my first online review to warn people away from them because they are so terrible to me.
Not so great – I signed up about 3 year ago for service. The sign up fee was outragous! It was over $100 for them to come out and set up service. Although I've always had pleasant conversations with customer service, thats about all I've had. I've had my service shut off a number of times, several of which, they thought my account was someone elses. We had problems with the internet, sometimes we were unable to get on demand service, actually most of the time we tried to watch movies, we were unable to get service. I was always charged about $40 more than my bundle package. The last several times I called, they "lowered" my bill by $20 dollars but with tax it came out about the same. I finally called and told them I'm switching to another company and they tried to talk my bill down in price, but after battling the bill for over a year, I'm done. I'd rather save my money, and get reliable service from someone else. Too bad the customer service was the only thing they had going for them.
Worst Internet Service – With 6 months of unreliable, slow, intermittent, flaky internet service behind me, I am ready to switch to ANYTHING as long as it is not Charter. They consistently provide Internet speeds that are 50% to 75% slower than what I have contracted for and pay for. Even my father's satellite service is faster than Charter. Are these Charter people crooks or just stupid?
Worst Company Ever – I have been dealing with problems with this company since we signed on with them. They signed me up for a bundle package that not only did not come with all the features they promised but it was way more then I was quoted. Oh and not to mention the cost they want to charge you to come out to do the initial set up (over $100.00). I called the CSR to get the situation taken care of and was told that I could ad the features I wanted originally if I wanted to pay an additional fee per month. When I asked for the number to the corprate office to get it dealt with and they told me it was against their policy to give it out I would have to go online. When I went online I tried using the chat option and was given an address to "corprate" at the same time I was able to find it under the FAQ's section, and guess what???? THEY WERE TWO DIFFERENT ADDRESSES!!!!!! I wish I could get rid of this company but I am not capable of getting satalite due to the way my apartment faces!!!
