Pleasant, Confident and Reassuring – Dr. Ali is a calm professional who does not seem to jump the gun. I had chest pain and I was very concerned, but he didn't react or panic. He was concerned but not complacent. He told me he wasn't sure and to not jump to any conclusions until we had all the information. When I went back for my follow up, I realized what diagnoses the pain could have been, and I appreciate him not scaring me. It turned out to be from my gallbladder and he ordered an ultrasound after I told him I had chest pain. He sent me to a surgeon who took it out and i have been pain free ever since! When he told me chest pain can many times be a lifethreatening probllem, like from the heart or lungs or arteries, I was grateful he waited to run his tests first. When I went to my other doctor before going to Dr. Ali, he didn't even look at me; he ordered a stress test after I said i had ches pain and didn't even ask any other questions. When he got the result, he told me it 'wasn't cardiac' and not to worry, and said it was my nerves! I called two weeks later and told him (my old doctor) and he told me to goto the er, where I was admitted by another doctor who didnt seem to listen. 36 hours later, and another negative stress test, and bruising from all the blood tests, I was told to follow up with my original primary, at that time of which I decided to goto Dr. Ali. He listened to me and now I am grateful to him for finding out it was gallbladder all along, and I wasnt crazy after all! He is a class act and I will refer my whole family to him. A++++++++++
Integrated Approach – This doctor treated me in an integrated manner. He was interested in ALL my medical issues, even the ones that didnt seem important, of course, I am not qualified to make those decisions. The staff are friendly and helpful. He is very thorough and detail oriented. I think he has a great bedside manner too,a trait that is lacking today. He makes me part of the decision process and is more like a consultant, which is interesting, considering that he doesnt 'talk down' to me. The medical jargon was translated into a language I understand. I appreciate that, because I try to do that for my clients. I would give him an A+++.
Excellent Office- disagree COMPLETELY with Janet09!!!! – I have personally been a patient at the Center For Health Internal Medicine since 2007. Creepy is totally absurd for describing Dr. Ali. Each visit, yes, I am greeted by Dr. Ali 'armed' with a lap top. But Janet09 fails to understand that it will soon be mandatory(believe 2012) that all medical records will need to be electronic (thank the government) so I would want an office that is advanced. The pictures of the staff add a nice touch. I think you fail to recognize that the office is trying to establish a non-sterile feel. You do not see people walking around in scrubs, it feels like you are being welcomed into their family.
Janet09 is pointing out mere tangibles which yes are important, this office is calming and aethetically pleasing. The GQ and automobile magazine may be the only magazines that JANET09 was interested in but when I have been in the waiting room (the longest 10 minutes) I have seen knowledgable books about diabetes and a newsletter about the staff.
The most important thing we are forgetting about is Dr. Ali's knowledge of medicine. Really when you see a surgeon do you want someone who is "touchy feely" but does not have an excellent surgical record but he has a good bedside manner? Remember that doesn't save your life! I work in the healthcare industry and he is above standards in his knowledge and diagnosis. I like that he has a computer in front of him. He can look up something if he does not know it right then and there, I assume he has internet capabilities. Also his staff has been there for a long time which says a lot about him and the way the office is mananged. Just ask his staff, most will say they have been there since he started the office. I do not think you would find another physician as great as Dr Ali as well as his nurse pracitioner Velvet who is just as excellent as him. Sorry that Janet09 was not happy but you will NOT be disappointed if you see Dr. Ali or Velvet. They are EXCELLENT!!!!
I Disagree w/ ctsjr and others – I've seen Dr. Ali three times since last November and don't think th creepy comments are at all fair. I have had, and believe you can expect, the experience it is about him and not you. Each visit he has come into the room armed with a laptop. Not a bad thing, except it's symbolic of an impersonal, chilly, clinical, efficiency focused (vs patient focused) medical practice. I want my radiologist and surgeon to be technicians, but not my primary care doctor. Anyhow, after reading GQ and/or a sports car magazine in the waiting room (where there is no check-in privacy), you go by posed pictures of the doc and his staff. They're cute but look provided by an image consultant. The quote on his card, attributed to him (which is odd since he obviously endorses the idea if it's on his business card) also feels staged. It mentions the [monotonous business of medicine...etc]. It's a nice idea but if monotony is a hands-on, sincere/genuine (this is the main thing you probably won't experience) connection with a doc who is really interesting in understanding what's happening; I'll take it for a lifetime. Dr. Ali's practice feels like a business first- ahead of being a place for patient care.
I'm sure Dr. Ali is a great diagnostician and knows his stuff (I'm not qualified to judge this)- but you can get that from a good tele-medicine doctor in one of the metro areas (you get the same metro-spa feel Dr. Ali appears to be trying to capture) without spending a minute in the waiting room. Finally, I wasn't surprised to see the focus on dermatological remedies listed in his business description. I imagine they're a high profit, low-liability, non-complicated way of getting folks in and out, having them feel good, and making a more than healthy profit. I doubt the time to write this will be worthwhile, but maybe patients who are looking for what I am from an internist will benefit by the perspective. I will be sharing my thoughts directly with Dr. Ali since I have found another doc on my insurance and want to let him know why I'm switching. It's probably grandiose thinking on my part to assume my input will be useful to them- but I think it's the right thing to do. I think writing things about a person's character without explanation (like the "creepy" comments) is not the right thing to do.
thorough! – Dr. Ali and his staff were friendly and efficient. I have been coping with a couple of issues I've been trying to get to the root of and Dr. Ali took what I would call a holistic, head to toe approach to getting to the root of the issue. I'm not qualified to judge, but it appears he is a very good diagnostician and this is important to me.
He also indicates a sensitivity to the emotional health needs of his patients. I didn't see the doctor for this reason, but do believe it very important and overlooked at times- especially regarding elderly patients.
Finally, I was 7-minutes late to my appt secondary to parking in the tower next to Dr. Ali's office and had to reschedule. When you see Dr. Ali be sure to factor in time for parking and walking to the stairs or elevator in the main building. His suite is easy to find, but it can take a few minutes to get there and they run a tight schedule. I suppose the trade-off is worth it: not having to wait a long time in the waiting room.
All doctors should take a lesson from Dr. Ali – Dr. Ali is not only a good doctor, but he has the compassion that most doctors lack. He can read you better than you can read yourself . I am so thankful to have such a wonderful doctor!
Doctor with Guts and Heart – Until Dr. Ali I believed that finding a top rate even a good primary care physician would be impossible. Dr. Ali has definitely renewed my faith that there is hope in Reno for top notch care. Not only did he perform lab tests that no other doctor ordered, but is confident enough to prescribe the right medication to help me with my chronic pain. Week after week of trying, Dr. Ali never gave up and was genuinely concerned with certain treatments didn't work. Well my life has changed for the better because of his persistence and care. Also, his office staff and medical assistants are in the same league regarding kindness and care. Dr. Ali is diligent in making sure that his patients visits are quick, thorough, and needs both physically and emotionally are met.
Dr. Ali is A+++ As a full time patient with many medical needs this doctor is a refreshing change from the snobbery and impatience that I have normally been met with.
