Editorial Review for Discovery Park – by Andrea Everett Anderson

The Scene
Easy access to the American River Bike Trail makes this a popular spot for outdoorsy types. Concerts are sometimes held during the summer at one of two makeshift stages. Teens mix with families and couples picnic next to serious fishermen. The park's close proximity to the Sacramento River is a bonus and a detriment. In the summer, the river access in Discovery Park provides ample opportunities for fishing, swimming and boating. During the rainy season, however, some or all of the park is completely underwater.

Amenities
Barbeques, picnic tables and grassy spots abound. The slope down to the river makes wading easy. Bring an inner tube, in-line skates, your dog (on a leash) and picnic supplies.
