What is the Best of Citysearch Index?
The Best of Citysearch Index is a scoring system that utilizes several sources of information, including online popularity and recommendations, to determine the city’s best businesses. From restaurants and hotels to hair salons and plumbers, the Best of Citysearch Index is an integral part of the Citysearch commitment to help you make an informed decision about where to go and why.

How is the Best of Citysearch Index calculated?
Citysearch uses the online popularity of a business to determine an initial value. We only assign values to the top businesses across the country. Next, and most importantly, we evaluate the member and editorial recommendations for all businesses. Positive recommendations score a business higher towards 9.9. Negative recommendations score a business lower to 1.0.

How does a business receive a “Popular,” “Recommended” or “Highly Recommended” identifier?
Popular - If a business has lots of online traffic and very few recommendations.
Recommended - If a business has only a few positive recommendations, or has a mix of positive and negative recommendations.
Highly Recommended - If a business has an overwhelming positive response from many of our members and editorial staff.

If a business receives many more negative recommendations than positive, it does not receive an identifier.

How do I make a recommendation for a business?
You must be logged on to My Citysearch to take advantage of this feature. Once logged on, click the “Rate It!” button on any business’s profile and you’ll be invited to make recommendations based on four criteria as they relate to the specific business, and an overall score. When you are finished, simply click the “I’m Done” button and you will be returned to the original profile page. However, if you choose the “I Have More to Say” button, you will have the opportunity to write a short review (tips on writing these are available here) and answer some additional questions. If your rating conforms to our guidelines, it will be posted in 1-3 days.

How can I see a list of businesses I have rated?

How are movies and events rated?
Movies and events use a 5-star rating system. The overall score is determined by averaging editorial and member recommendations. You can see the specific ratings of our editors and users by clicking the tabs marked "Editor's Review" and "User Ratings" near the top of the main page for the event. Online popularity is not used to determine the rating of events and movies.

How do I rate another user's review?
You may choose to judge the helpfulness of a rating with the voting buttons (shown below). Ratings that have been voted most helpful by the community will have greater visibility on the site.

Can I change a rating I have already submitted?
Yes. Simply re-visit the profile page for the business or event you rated and click the Add your own rating link. You are free to make as many modifications to your previous rating as you like and re-publish.

What if I find a rating offensive or incorrect?
If you feel a rating should be removed from our site, you may ask us to review it. Click through to the individual rating's page, and then click the Request for removal link. You will then be asked to reference our guidelines and provide one of four reasons for your removal request. If we find that the rating does not meet the guidelines for publication on Citysearch, we will remove it from the site.
